The sign of this will to resume dialogue, Mevlut Cavusoglu paid a visit to the town where German counterpart Sigmar Gabriel has his own election zone, Goslar, about 250km west of Berlin.
Ankara is making efforts to get out of isolation after the depression that followed the failed coup in 2016 and resume a somewhat degraded dialogue with the European Union.
Disputes have been numerous between Turkey and Germany. Berlin has reacted sharply to the arrest of some of its citizens in Turkey.
Ankara, in turn, accuses Germany of supporting alleged Kurdish separatists and picists, and President Recep Tayip Erdogan has so far managed to accuse the Chancellor of using Nazi practices.
During the joint press conference, Sigmar Gabriel said happy that Berlin and Ankara, strategic partners from the fact of the Turkish minority living in Germany, are returning step by step to a good basis.
“We are both determined to do everything to overcome difficulties in German-Turkish relations”, Gabriel said, adding that he supported a dialogue on openness and common respect, even though the two leaders do not have the same thoughts on all issues.
