Is food consumed in Kosovo safe

The Kosovo Food and Veterinary Agency (AUVK) is facing a lack of the number of field inspectors.

Lamir Thaci spokesman from this agency, in a proposal for Online Economy, said budget constraints have been unable to increase the number of inspectors.

Thaci says that much work will be delegated even to municipal inspectors, because according to him, we AUVK would perform all inspections they would be out of work.

The number of inspectors inside the Agency is certainly not sufficient, we need additional capacity, but budget constraints and opportunities are what we have now. Through our national plans that we have for control and failure to try to cover up the larger measure and simultaneously delegate competencies to municipal inspectors because if we manage to do it all then they'll be out of work”, Thaci said.

Meanwhile asked whether food consumed in the country is safe, Thaci said the Agency with its capacities tries to control and control food that is provided to citizens.

If products are of animal origin then subject to the control of veterinarian inspectors, if the products are of plant origin then they're controlled by phyto-sanitary inspectors but all these inspectors are highly qualified and are professionals in their fields and their control is made based on standard procedures that are based on laws in power. Over any doubt, the shipment is not allowed to enter our country”.
