Media tycoon Rupert Murdoch called on Facebook to pay a fee to the media, considered a reliable “”.
A day earlier, Mark Zoockermberg said that to fight dezination, the largest social network would give priority to news from reliable sources.
But Murdoch, owner of News Corp, who, among other things, controls the American Fox Channel, The Wall Street Journal, The Times considers Zuckerberg's proposals inadequate.
Murdoch asks Facebook founder to put his hand in his pocket and pay publishers on a regular basis to show that he is in fact committed to supporting professional and reliable journalism.
“Bottors have undoubtedly improved Facebook value and quality through news, but are not adequately rewarded for these services”, Murdoch said, adding that these payments on behalf of Facebook will have little impact on editorial income, but a major impact on the prospects of publishers and journalists.
Murdoch's comments come as Facebook acknowledged that social media are a potential threat to democracy if it is not oriented towards reliable sources.
“We are now set as never before to combat negative influences and to ensure that our platform is definitely a good democratic resource,” said manager Katie Charmparth.
