Health officials have listed cardiovascular diseases as the first cause of death in Kosovo.
Meanwhile, the disease that is taking life, as the second turn, is listed as a cancer.
Nevertheless, Kosovo has no reference system, which would be known correctly how many people have problems with certain diseases and how many people die from certain diseases.
Gani Bajraktari, chairman of the Association of Cardiologists in Kosovo, told Radio Free Europe, that the number of citizens with heart problems is on the rise every year.
He adds that increasing the number of patients with cardiovascular problems mainly dominates acute heart attacks, such as the most frequent and deadly pathology in Kosovo, as do other developed and developing countries.
Even in Kosovo, as well as in many developing and developed countries, cardiovascular diseases remain like the first and the cause of death”.
“in Kosovo we have yet to make standards conform to European standards. This year, Kosovo has entered the European Cardiology Association's atll for the first time and the indicators of treating these diseases are still reliable to wish for”, Bajraktari said.
Bajraktari adds that emergency treatment remains delayed in Kosovo.
The treatment presents difficulties, as in Kosovo it is not achieved in two hours, as much as it is spent from the beginning of the pain to thechoronary opening, and in us this is a lack and therefore we have loss of people's lives”, Bajraktari said.
At least 17 million people in the world die each year from heart disease, official health - institutions are speaking.
Health professionals say that most cardiovascular diseases can be prevented through clear risk addresses, such as smoking, unhealthy diet, obesity, physical inactivity, and alcohol consumption.
On the other hand, Ekrem Hyseni, director of the Oncology Institute at the University Clinical Centre of Kosovo, has said that although the number of cancer patients has increased, it does not represent real growth, but the awareness of citizens to investigate the disease earlier.
“Viti 2016 has been closed with 1236 new cancer cases until 2017, 1550 new cases. The year 2017 has marked growth, although it does not accurately indicate growth, but increased awareness of citizens”, Hyseni said.
If this number is compared to the same population in the region, it turns out we are with the smallest number of cancer patients. This says we have a new population age in Kosovo”, he has said further.
Hyseni has also talked about the quality of health services at the Oncological Institute at the University Clinical Centre in Kosovo.
The quality scale of health services is at the level, but there is also room for quality upgrades. We have chemotherapy services, radio therapy where up to 300 patients attend and receive these services daily, Hyseni said.
But there are also infectious diseases in Kosovo, where an estimated 100,000 people are infected annually with infectious diseases.
According to epidemiologists at the National Institute of Public Health in Kosovo, the number of new cases infected with infectious diseases is about 6 thousand in 100,000.
The infected people say in 2017, such as infectious disease, have characterized mouse fever and measles.
