The American Embassy in Kosovo has reacted to further efforts to abolish the Special Court Law.
Through a communique, the American Embassy, along with the Quint embassies, has appealed to all bodies, institutions, party leaders, MPs to give up any thought of abolishing or renegotiating the Special Chamber Law.
The American Embassy reports that Kosovo citizens will have serious consequences, including Kosovo's international and Euro-Atlantic integration.
Full response:
We are deeply concerned with continuing efforts to depreciate the work of Specialised Chambers, as well as the president's decision to forgive three convicted assassins, in the so-called Hajra” family's <x0-seconds. Specialised chambers, in particular, are an important part of Kosovo's commitment to rule of law and Kosovo's commitment to addressing crimes committed in its territory.
QUINT countries have long been true friends of Kosovo, including in the most difficult times. Since our support for NATO intervention, the sacrifice of our soldiers in Kosovo, the immediate recognition of Kosovo's independence and our continued support for your development, we have worked hard to support your country. Your success is in our interest. However, we will always insist that Kosovo uphold justice.
There is no reason to prevent the work of Specialised Chambers and invite each of the leaders of institutions, party leaders or deputies, to give up any attempt to abolish or renegotiate any part of the Law for Specialised Chambers. Such a move questions Kosovo's commitment to rule of law and challenges all of Kosovo's achievements. This puts individual interests on the interests of Kosovo society. We condemn such a thing, and whoever supports this will deliberately act against Kosovo's partnership with our countries. We invite all Kosovo leaders and Kosovo Parliament deputies to raise their voices against this initiative and can honestly inform Kosovo's citizens of the serious negative consequences, including the process of Kosovo's international and Euro-Atlantic integration, if Kosovo continues this way. At the same time, we expect all states to prosecute or co-operate in the full, in judging alleged crimes committed in Kosovo.
