Over 24 thousand people affected by flu in Kosovo

National Institute is paying attention to the epidemiological performance of seasonal flu across the territory of the Republic of Kosovo by intensifying field work

A total of 24,932 suspicious cases in the flu, 3,357 cases of acute respiratory infections and 62 acute respiratory cases have been reported between October 01 and January 31, 2018.

The cases are reported by all municipalities in Kosovo except municipalities with Serb populations.

The largest number of cases are reported by the municipality of Pristina, Prizren and Podujevo, but none exceed the epidemic threshold.

A total of 306 suspicious samples in the flu have been tested in the laboratory of the national flu centre IKSHPK until 31 January 2018. Of them, 132 samples have proved positive: 44 Influenza A, out of them 1@x0>v and 87 Influenza B samples, of which 48 cases Influenza B type Yamamata.

The National Institute has already provided the right professional recommendations for citizens to be careful and not to get out in cold environments, not to stay indoors with large population density, and to use as many hot fluids and vitamins as possible when it is said that this type B is not found in this year's seasonal flu vaccine.

We have asked the Ministry of Education to report on a daily basis the shortage of students in all Kosovo schools, which presents an important indicator to recommend the school's annual school learning break.

Currently, the epidemiological situation is under control in seasonal flu, but with the current climate situation ruling in Kosovo, where there is the possibility of increasing cases.
