Today, on January 21st, it is 12 years after the death of former Kosovo President Ibrahim Rugova.

President Rugova died on January 21st 2006, where he was buried with high state and military honours.

On the 12th anniversary of his death, there will be homazhe at his tomb in Velani and the Rugova family, while a memorial academy will be held at the “Emerald” Hotel.

Republic of Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj, at 09 o'clock, will pay tribute to President Ibrahim Rugova's tomb, marking the anniversary of his death.

On the first anniversary of Ibrahim Rugova's death, former Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu decorated Rugova with the Kosovo Order “Hero, the highest title in our country given to the Albanian and Kosovo historical figures.

Dr. Ibrahim Rugova was born on December 2, 1944, in the village of Cerrca, the municipality of Istog. On January 10, 1945, Yugoslav communists shot down his father, Uka, and Grandpa Rrustt Rugova, who had been a prominent fighter against the qualitative issues that were penetrated Kosovo during World War II.

Ibrahim Rugova was elected on December 23rd 1989, chairman of the Democratic League of Kosovo, the first political party in Kosovo to directly challenge the communist regime in power
