The cotton caramel (also known as the black fairy cloth in Australia, candy candy in South Africa, Great Britain, and New Zealand) is a form of mature sugar. According to the New York Times, “is almost 99,999 percent sugar, with points of flavoring and coloring of food”.

There are some claims on the origin of cotton candy, with several sources tracking it in the form of mature sugar found in Europe in the 19th century.

Dentist William C. Morrison and Confectionist John C. Wharton first appeared at a large audience at the 1904 World Fair, where with great success, they sold 68,655 boxes in 25 cases. /Periscopi/
