Trafficking in Albanian refugees towards Greece continues to mark growth and is turning into a concern for the police of the two countries. In addition to repatriation, Greek police practice penalties for Albanian refugees, such as high fines, or decisions for refusing entry for several years on Greek territory.
Albanian police, meanwhile, said that refugee groups from Syria and Africa have been blocked on Albanian territory for the last two days. Gjirokastra border police have recently blocked 15 citizens from Syria, Alliance, Morocco and Libya who have returned to Greek authorities.
According to border data, during August alone at the Albanian border in the Gjirokastra area, about 50 refugees from Syria and African countries, some of whom have sought asylum in Albania, were blocked.
Young Albanians continue to emigrate to Greece without firm documents, using traffic networks, hoping for seasonal employment, especially during the tourist season. They avoid crossings from border crossings and through mountain trails of the Greek Albanian green border, penetrate Greek territory by traveling for a few more days on foot.
Increasing unemployment in Albania is seen as one of the main factors of Albanian young people's undocumented migration to neighbouring Greece.
Although Greece and Albania have an agreement on seasonal employment, signed nearly 20 years ago, it has never been implemented in practice by Greek authorities. / VOA
