Have you ever wondered how many prisoners Kosovo has in its prisons? That number may seem like a surprise to the different news reports we hear every day. In Kosovo's prisons, there are currently 1601 prisoners suffering punishment for various works. Of course, this number may change for weeks and months, but the last figure is what Justice Minister Abelard Tahiri himself has given.
“The situation at the Kosovo Correcting Centre is generally good, and that our responsibilities are implementing constitutional norms to 1,601 people suffering punishment. Aware that this area requires full commitment and co-operation with the Kosovo Correcting Service, as well as with the Kosovo Police, I have pledged that I will face all problems of the different natures of this field to give them institutional solutions as the law predicts! ” has said, among other things, Minister Tahiri on a Facebook status.
Meanwhile, it is suggested that the number of members of the corrective service is somewhere around 1610. With these figures, each prison guard is assigned to oversee a prisoner.
