The price of wheat is growing, the cause for this is poor harvests both in Macedonia and in the world's Sosa.

For now, the bread will not be expensive because the baker's industry is using the old grain reserves that have been bought at cheaper prices. But, from the milling group near the Macedonian Economic Ode, they say that if it is time for bread to be produced with imported wheat, then there may be expensive bread, the Telegraph of Macedonia conveys.

Macedonia is a market economy and we function according to the market, if there is an increase in the price of wheat it automatically means price of flour and it is likely to increase the price of bread. So far there has been an increase in wheat prices by 12 percent compared to last year, but the price of bread remains the same, and this is due to the reserves owned by merchants and producers”, said Goran Milisic, head of the milling and bakers' group.

While the Ministry of Agriculture, Forest and Waters say there is no need for panic, there will be no cost.

“According to until now analysis is not expected to destabilise the wheat market, nor the expensive production of bakers. The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Waters carefully pursues the situation and will not allow the risk of local wheat production”, the MBPEU statement said.

Statistical data in this regard gives this report: The grain harvests in the country this year are 38 percent lower than last year. The local production will provide 196 thousand tonnes of wheat, while Macedonia's annual needs are about 300 thousand tonnes. The loss of some 104 thousand tonnes is expected to be filled with gross and imported flour, and due to this lack by the milling Group, they say a five-year plan for increasing the quantity and quality of local wheat is needed.
