Sunday's test took place in the mountainous area of Punggye.
American seismologists had said that the 6.3 magnitude earthquake was registered northeast of the country and was the result of a possible “explosion”.
The “Epicentra” of the earthquake is located in the area where previous nuclear tests were conducted.
The blast came hours after North Korean leader Kim Jong reported what state media said was a new kind of hydrogen bomb.
