Angela Merkel will be in charge of the German government again for four years, while today's Sunday has been one of her most difficult days in politics.
But what does a victory of the “Iron bride” mean for Albania and Albanians?
This question has been answered by German Ambassador to Tirana Susan Schutz, who has declared Merkel's fourth consecutive victory means in principle a continuation of good Albania-German relations and full support of Balkan integration into the EU.
I expect no shift in the future. All parties in Germany are in the same voice, they are for membership of Balkan countries in Europe, as well as Albania.
The AfD will represent a considerable parliamentary faction, but I don't think it will affect federal government policies in terms of the Western Balkans and Albania. ”- said Schutz.
These elections have been quite sensitive not only to the fact that Merkel's CDU has received a smaller result than that of 2013 (5% less), but also to Schultz's statement, which stated that from now on, the Social Democrats will be the country's new opposition, thus implying that a coalition will not be possible. Thus the coalition issue remains open.
