Iraqi Prime Minister Clar al Abad said today he is preparing to intervene with the army if the Kurdish referendum on Iraqi Kurdistan independence is held.

In an interview for the US news agency AP, Al Abad has praised the referendum as a “dangerous escalation that would call for violations of Iraq's sovereignty”.

Kurds have warned that 25 September they will hold the Kurdistan independence referendum on Iraqi territory.
