Comparing the ambitions of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in northern Iraq to the Arab Revolution against the Ottoman Empire during World War I, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the new Arabian Lauurens would not succeed this time”. Iraq's Kurdish move for independence will end in “disappointment”, Erdogan said, warning that the Turkmen are being oppressed in northern Iraq and their rights are being violated, the “Hurriyet Daily News” broadcast Periscopi.
He added that if Iraqi Kurds will serve “the interests of other actors in the region”, they will not be able to seek help from Turkey.
Not to mention this “interest”, Erdogan's statement followed the wave of Israeli flags during some referendum celebrations in the KR, which was widely reported in Turkish media.
During the Arab Revolution in 1916, the British Army sent its military mission to connect between the Arab leadership and the British High Command in Egypt in order to co-ordinate the strategy against Ottoman authorities. This mission included young British Lieutenant T.E. Lawrence, better known as 'Laurens of Arabia'.
“If we have reacted [in the referendum] so sharply, it is because we want only the best for Arabs, Turks and Kurds”, he said./Periscopi/
