Prime Minister Edi Rama has spoken to NATO countries' chiefs of staff today about the Russian danger in the region. It counted several countries in the region that are outside NATO, representing a factor of uncertainty for the Alliance and territory where third factors can penetrate.
The prime minister stressed that Albania as a country that borders or interacts in many ways with these countries has an interest, but also a special responsibility for this organic part of the region to become a factor of stability.
“Even in the future we will make our contribution to realising the wide spectrum of NATO commitments. One of Albania's important responsibilities in NATO is its care to contribute to the Balkans' fragile and problematic historical region becoming a region of peace, democracy, stability and prosperity.
With Montenegro's entry into NATO, which Albania has strongly supported at the very top of the day, our Alliance, apart from the Atlantic, also took place in the Adriatic wombs.
The Adriatic Sea has already turned into an internal sea for the Alliance, giving it control over a very important marriage to European security. However, NATO map lacks Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Kosovo and Macedonia.
This still organicd area in European security architecture represents a strategic uncertainty factor for our Alliance, as opposed to a territory in which third actors see vulnerability and opportunity for penetration.
Albania as a country that borders or interacts in many ways with these countries has an interest, but also a special responsibility for this organic part of our region and continent to be transformed into a factor of its stability and prosperity.
Fulfilling this responsibility also as a place of life NATO we have tried and come to believe not least in a process that lasts”, Prime Minister Edi Rama said on the NATO committee that met for the first time in Albania.
