The 2017/2018 school year will begin on 4 September in almost all primary and high schools.
Education Ministry officials confirmed to Radio Kosovo that all relevant preparations have already been made and are in the phase of distribution of texts through municipal education directorates.
Meanwhile, the United Education Union has some concerns about the start of this school year. The Ministry of Education and Municipal Education Directorates are in finalisation of preparations for the start of the new 2017/2018 school year, which will begin on 4 September.
Meanwhile, there are about 28,000 students who would be sitting at school banks for the first time. Director for the Development of Pre-university Education Mission in the Ministry of Education Mustafe Kadriu told Radio Kosovo that responsibilities are shared with municipal education directors, as far as school infrastructure is concerned. He said the ministry has prepared new programmes for pre-preparative classes, first grade, sixth and tenth.
The “we have issued an administrative guide that clearly describes, when it starts, how it starts, so there won't be an amulet to implement the curriculum. Currica begins at all levels, except for professional education. The teachers who will work with these classes have become the necessary training, almost all teachers have been involved in the application of the new curriculum”, he said.
Meanwhile, the United Education Union has expressed its concern over the failure to implement some points of the new collective contract on the part of municipal education directors. Union Chairman Nundman Jasharaj told Radio Kosovo that in September there may be also union actions.
On this issue, Head for the Development of Pre-university Education Mission in the Ministry of Education Mustaf Kadriu said he respects the union's demands, but, as he said, it would be good for the union to be more oriented in developing teaching capacities to increase quality in education.
This school year textbooks will be distributed for free only the level from first to fifth grade, while from sixth to ninth grade will receive used textbooks.
