Samsung's boss sentenced to 5 years in prison for corruption

A court in South Korea has sentenced to five years in prison for corruption the billionaire owner of the company “Samsung”, Lee Yae Jong, transmits Periscopi. Lee was charged with bribery, so he risked up to 12 years in prison.
“Under the director of Samsung company, Lee Jae-yong was charged in February with offering or promising a $38m bribe to Choi Soon Sil, a close friend of South Korean President Park Geun Hye, charged with corruption”, foreign media report.
Lee is allegedly backed by the government to unite two Samsung business units in 2015 in exchange for the money.
He is also accused of embezzlement, hiding property abroad, hiding criminal income, and false testimony.
Prosecutors had sought up to 10 years in prison for Samsung's other four managers, as part of a broader corruption scandal that has shaken South Korean political high levels.
