The former Kosovo Consulate partner, who has been working for a long time at the Kosovo consulate in America, will face charges at the Brooklyn Court, reports the Daily News.
Brooklyn federal prosecutors claim Albert Veliu tried to organise a sale of more than a dozen “AK-47” and a ammunition rocket that he called “atnet” and a “neaker named Shaq”.
“34-year-old resident Staten Island” has been in custody since late June on charges that it was part of a criminal ring.
Veliu's lawyers have offered a total of $750,000 worth to free him on bail, they have argued that Veliu is a family man without a criminal record.
But Judge Pamela Chen has denied lawyer Veliu's offer Wednesday, considering him a dangerous person for the community and who can leave the country.
Albert Veliu has been arrested in June this year with a group of friends, following a DEA operation in co-operation with the Kosovo Police, because he had made money laundering, narcotics trafficking and arms sales.
A member of the Kosovo Police (secret agent) had also been co-operating in his arrest, American medium Silive.com reported. He had “helped” Veliu to sell his weapons in Kosovo, this medium writes.
Veliu along with another American citizen charged with the same work, Christopher Curanovic, associate of “La Cosa Nostra” had created an illegal money laundering scheme through the sale of drugs.
The defendants have cleared nearly 800,000 dollars allegedly from drug sales revenues.
Veliu risks up to 20 years in prison if convicted of acts charged.
