The largest volcanic region on Earth has been discovered below the ice layer covering Antarctica.
Scientists have discovered 91 new volcanoes hidden under the ice. They range from 100 feet [100 m] to 850 feet [350 m] in height. Geologists say that the verse resembles the volcanic ridge in east Africa, where it was thought to be the world's densest concentration of volcanoes.
Whether Antarctica's volcanoes are active or not is still unclear. If ice softens when the climate warms, it is believed that volcanic activity in that area can grow. This study was conducted by scholars at the University of Edinburgh.
