While some have been reunited with surviving relatives, hundreds of them remain abandoned or urgently need psychological assistance in Iraqi orphanages.
In recent months, along with Iraqi and Russian authorities, “Russia Today” has led a campaign “to bring them home”, focusing on the return of Russian-speaking orphans, Periscope broadcasts.
Some of the children, known to their relatives after appearing in “Russia Today”, have already been sent to their families.
“We have already managed to bring six children back [to Russia]”, Russia Today” Iraqi Ambassador to Russia Haydar Mansour Hadi told “
The ambassador explained that once the children, whose parents are believed to have been killed during the fighting in the ranks of ISė, they are placed in the homes of orphaned children led by the government in Baghdad, where best services are offered, care and provide them with good food, clothing, and care until we find their relativeial approach”, Hadi said.
Iraq is also in the process of creating a “database to know exactly how many children, how many Iraqi people and Iraqi embassies can help through diplomatic and legal channels, to get them home safely”, he said.
Children who live in violent environments experience horrors that most others do not subject to, such as the destruction of their homes, the death of their parents, brothers, and friends.
About 90 percent of children have lost a member of their family either they were kidnapped or killed. When they were leaving they were shot in the back, or smuggled through the traps”, said Aram Shakaram, from “Save The Children”.
“As soon as a helicopter flies around, the children go down to the floor and cry. Some of them cry at night. Some fear seeing foreigners. Some fear to see strangers. Some shut down and say no word for a long time”, spoke of “Russia Today”, Maulid Warfa from the United Nations Children's Fund.
Meanwhile, the Iraqi government is trying to get the children of ISIS foreign fighters home and is in the process of creating a database to help the repatriation process, said Ambassador Hades for “Russia Today”.
The “was terrorists from almost 100 countries, including the US, Europe and even China, which we were fighting in Iraq”, Hadi said.
We believe there's probably more. ”, he said./Periscopi/
