“As a result of floods, 27 people have died “, the Department for Prevention and Disaster Relief reported.
The numerous floods have hit 10 provinces, mainly located in northeast Thailand, causing a financial loss of $300 million”, according to the Thai Interior Ministry.
Over two hundred square miles [2,300 sq km] of rice fields have been damaged during the floods.
Thailand is the second largest rice exporter in the world after India.
“However, it is too early to assess the degree of impact on Thailand's rice exports”, according to Thai's Regional Exporters Association.
Currently, Thailand is currently in the Muston season, with heavy rainfall forecasted for next week.
