Tomorrow in Trieste, Italy, is held the Western Balkans Summit 2017, which will be an opportunity to discuss concrete ways to strengthen regional co-operation and further the Western Balkans' EU integration process.

The summit will serve as an important opportunity to work together in strengthening concrete opportunities by promoting regional co-operation with the aim of developing comprehensive societies, good governance and visual economies, further advancing the prospect of European Union integration in the region.

European diplomacy chief Federica Moghrini, Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy Johannes Hahn, Violet Bulc, Commissioner for Transport, as well as government chiefs, economy ministers and transport ministers of the Western Balkans and counterparts from six EU member states Austria, Croatia, France, Germany, Italy and Slovenia will participate.

Discussions will focus on three key areas of regional co-operation, regional economic integration/developing of the private sector and contact between people.

During the summit, the European Commission will present significant new funds as part of the “annual connectivity”.

Moreover, Western Balkan partners are expected to sign the Transport Community Treaty, which will help integrate transport networks in the region and with the EU and lead reform measures in the transport sector.

In terms of regional economic integration, Western Balkan partners are expected to agree on an action plan to develop a Regional Economic Zone with the aim of boosting the region's withdrawal to increase investment and generate jobs, especially through smart growth, new businesses and capacity growth.
