The wide sandy belt and shallow water up to a few feet from the coast make that beach perfect for families of children. But beach stations are far from the standards that must be met to ensure the safety of vacationers.
Watch towers should be located every 250m and there will be trained surveyers or lifeguards. The only function performed by the only tower in the Cavaja rock area is to keep boxing in an event that entertains vacationers on the beach.
There's no first aid on the beach. There's no signal for the space devoted to swimming. While after several cases of water engines incidents, at least in Durres these have marked the territory from which they begin.
Yet the danger is there in any case. The municipality says on Monday it will begin lifting licenses for private ones who do not meet the conditions. Until then, let's just sit here hoping there won't be any more casualties on beaches and seas.
