The European Law Implementation Agency, Europol, has announced today that 107 people have been arrested under extensive investigation into human trafficking and sexual exploitation.
In Austria's police-led operation, with the involvement of law enforcement agencies from 22 European Union and third-side countries, investigators had targeted “organised crime groups for trafficking of vulnerable individuals for sexual exploitation”, the Europol statement noted, the DPA agency reported.
The nationality of victims and suspects suggests the largest number of EU trafficking networks is from Nigeria, South America and Eastern Europe, Europol says.
This investigation was on a vast scale: Over 125 thousand people have been checked in nearly 40,000 locations, including prostitution regions, public homes, and massage parlors.
Europol points out that “Special Care” is dedicated to Internet statements where victims of sexual exploitation are observed.
