A Kosovar in Staten Island of the United States is accused of selling weapons of AK-47 type and an anti-tank missile launcher in Kosovo.
The US prosecutor for the East District of New York announced on Wednesday that Albert Veliu is among the eight defendants charged with money laundering, extortion and international arms trafficking.
Veliu was allegedly caught in a wiretapping where an arms deal was being arranged, reports nydaylynews.com.
The arms deal is linked to another deal the defendants have made to resolve a extortion debt, officials said. The defendants reportedly have cleared about 800,000 dollars of drug money.
Federal agents used surveillance and confidential informants to capture them, authorities said.
Veliu told a DEA informant that he had gun connections in Kosovo and then brokered the arms agreement, officials said.
Kosovo police yesterday executed mandates to capture a lot of weapons, ammunition and $600,000 cash ready, American media reports, broadcast Klan Kosova.
