Delawie sharply criticises politicians: No time for cramps

US Ambassador to Pristina Greg Delaway said today that the United States remains committed to Kosovo as a sovereign, democratic and integrated state in the world community, while warning that there is no room for idleness now and that Kosovo politicians should put aside their party interests in order to work for the good [...]

He made these comments on the occasion of marking the 241st anniversary of the US declaration of independence, in which representatives of local institutions, political parties, international missions in Kosovo and other guests participated.

Delaway has welcomed the progress achieved in Kosovo, but warned that there is a lot of impasse in the country recently.

“There is no doubt that Kosovo has achieved much in these 21 years- progress is undeniable. But I think it's obvious that early enthusiasm has faded slightly. We are seeing more impasses and less progress. More people worry about their political future than their country's future. Kosovo citizens see this as well. Some have expressed their displeasure “by breaking” ballots in the elections a few weeks ago. I believe Kosovo today is at the turning point. What will we see as we look towards the future? More positive change, or more jam? During the next year, will this country progress further, will it move forward on its path towards Euro-Atlantic integration and improved citizens' lives, or will it stay in one place? I think the solution and result of this solution will be largely determined by the people who are here tonight”, the American diplomat said.

Speaking of the history of the American people, Delawi has been commemorating that things seemed hopeless until Roger Sherman and Oliver Ellsworth came up with a solution to the House of Representatives and the Senate, which became known as the “compromise, the great”, representing the first return to the history of the US Constitution.

The great “compromis presents an important lesson for leaders today, especially as Kosovo begins to form its new government. International permits that have supported decision-making in the past in Kosovo are not as active as they used to be. The world is distracted, many countries are preoccupied with internal affairs. All eyes are not turned to the Balkans right now. We're increasingly counting on you to make your own decisions and take responsibility for them”, Delawi said.

Remembering that in the past Kosovo has attracted the world's attention for negative reasons, the US diplomat ordered that Kosovo today should return the world's attention in a positive sense by demonstrating that it lives in line with Euro-Atlantic values and that Kosovo leaders should demonstrate this and convince their fellow citizens to support it.

He has ordered the leaders of the institutions and political parties to work for the interests of Kosovo, putting aside their personal interests, as there is no time for drive.

“At this return point we don't have time to stretch, it's time for progress. This is what Kosovo citizens want, and they deserve it. As we celebrate the 21st anniversary of Independence Day together, I hope we can all agree -- from the government to the opposition and the farmer, to the civil servant that Kosovo cannot afford to spend more time or energy standing in a country. It must return to the determination of the future and exult in the world with its progress. I must establish a system of law rule that guarantees equal protection and equal accountability for all. It has already demonstrated that it can hold elections the Western way, now it must demonstrate that it can be governed the same way”, Delawi said.

He has said the US remains committed to Kosovo as a sovereign, democratic and integrated state in the world community.

I hope we will see the leaders-government and opposition- demonstrating the same commitment. Leaders demonstrating the value of compromise for the sake of settlement, as well as the value of co-operation for the sake of common progress, to create Kosovo's future as ordinary European democracy”, the US diplomat has said.

Otherwise, on July 4, 1776, delegates from 13 British colonies of America signed the Declaration of Independence, which was said to have been the cause of the American Revolution. This document was drafted mainly by 32-year-old Thomas Jefferson.

One part of the Declaration contained a list of complaints against King George the Third and England's Parliament. The rest of the Declaration contained the essence of the idea of American freedom, of the natural rights that humans have.

“We believe that these rights are natural, that all humans are created equal, that the creator has given them certain necessary rights, such as life, freedom, and the pursuit of happiness. We believe that to ensure these rights people create governments that take their powers with the consent of the governed, that whenever a form of government undermines these purposes, it is the people's right to change, or remove it”.

The Declaration of Independence is viewed as one of the most important documents in the history of the United States. The other document is the Constitution. July 4th is celebrated each year as a national day of independence in the United States.
