Super production and export to the EU “Made in Albania”

Mandarine production and export this year, at Konispoli Together, has marked historical figures.

In Konispol alone, 20 miles [20 km] from the city of Saranda, the historic record of Mandarin production reached a total of 20 thousand tonnes, or 30% more than a year ago. While together with the Xarra area of Mursia, the total production of <x0m>art “totals up to 40 thousand tonnes.

Mayor Saranda Shuap Beqiri says there are about 1,000 farmers who planted over 750 hectares of Mandarin land in Konispol, as we aim to introduce another 1,000 hectares to reach 50,000 tonnes of production annually.

According to him, Super Mandarin production not only meets domestic market needs with this product, but exports towards EU markets are recognising expansion of the geographical map.

“We export to the regional market, Kosovo, Macedonia, as we have launched Mandarin exports to Poland, Czechia, Germany, Ukraine and the price is held at a good standard” this year, Beqiri says.

This “ar area of” for Mandarin production has further development potential.

To list the region's productivity, well - organized specialists are in this area. While increased cooperation (comopertion) among growers is leading to increased quality manufacturing of Mandarins.

The co-operative term has a bad name from the past, but only as a community can benefit more from government financial support schemes, EU grants and various projects.

Mandarins, Employment Offer

The Super Mandarin production has not only engaged in employing over 1,000 farmers in the area but has launched new jobs in permanent positions and more new seasonal jobs, on production pits such as the current December season.

In the Konispol area, there are 3 collection points, while a considerable portion of Konispol's Mandarin has already found a wide distribution in international markets.

The aim of local farmers and executives now remains to expand production until 6 months, September-mars, cultivating cultures that fit the famous Mandarin area.

While new ambalization technologies and lines that farmers are implementing in this business, they aim to increase standards and exports of Mandarin “made in Albania” to international markets.

Government, USAID support agrum industry

In co-operation with international institutions since 2007, various US government programmes have helped under the agrum sector to increase jobs, reduce support for imports, and increase exports.

Today, with support from USAID, the KoTE farm in Konispol has won the Global Certificate GAP following inspections by CEPES German Certification Company, which has enabled the company to now penetrate new EU markets.
