Serbia's Environment Ministry has announced last night that secret warehouses with nearly 25 tonnes of chemical waste were located in a hole on the territory of Obrenovac, about 50km southwest of Belgrade.
An environmental official told reporters that this police action has helped avert a “environmental disaster”.
Officials said tests are under way to determine whether these wastes have poisoned the earth and wells in the vicinity.
Police said the owner of the capacity, where this material was found, was arrested and could face charges of endangering public safety.
