The schemes of devastating earthquakes will reach next year because of the slow Earth's rotation, scientists say, writes the Daily Mail.

Experts warn that this year has been easy with only 6 major earthquakes. However, they say that next year we may have at least 20 earthquakes that will cause serious damage and are expected to fall in tropical regions where some 1 billion people live.

As they say that slight changes in the speed of our planet's rotation will cause great seismic activity by releasing large amounts of underground energy.

The rotation of the planet is slowing because of the tide forces between the earth and the moon. The closest part of the Earth to the moon feels its strongest attraction, while the most distant part of the moon feels its gravity less.

Scientists from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and University of Montana, say that even millisecond swings can increase seismic activity.

The link between Earth's rotation and earthquake activity is strong and suggests there will be an increase in the number of strong earthquakes next year,” Dr. Observer from Dr. Roger Bilham from Colorado University said.
