Being poor means not having enough food, clothing, and other necessities. But now U n NICEF, the UN human rights sub-organisation, has expanded the notion of poverty. Poor, according to U NICEF is also the one who has no access to the digital world.
Young people without Internet access are big losers, highlighted in a U study. NICEF published early this week in New York. According to the report, the internet has dramatically changed the growth of children and young people, writes the German newspaper “Süddeutsche Zeitung”
Many children can avoid lack of education and poverty through the Internet. At the same time, digitalization is harshing inequality. Striked especially are poor family children. From the digital universe are 346 million young people in developing countries or poor countries.
It is 29 percent of all young people worldwide. In Africa three out of five young people between the ages of 15 and 24 are offline. In Europe this ratio is 1 to 25. 56 percent of all websites are in English, so young people who do not learn English often do not understand their contents.
Interest in knowledge is similar to most children, but the chance to get access to the Internet is not the same. For W study NICEFs have also observed the intensity of Internet use by young people in industrialized countries. Many youths use the smart phone up to 150 times a day. Some young people each month post up up to 4 thousand messages that mean every 6 to 7 minutes if we take out sleep time.
In digitized countries parents are concerned about the health of children. Wise telephones have developed a special culture in the children's room, and parents have difficulty controlling it.
