Hundreds of thousands of law officials, army and security will be deployed in cities around the world as protective measures for people who will celebrate to host the 18th New Year.
In the United States, New York City officials announced they will use double control, snipers, street closures, and especially trained dogs to secure Times Square, while 2 million people gather to see the traditional fall of the crystal ball at midnight
In Las Vegas, Nevada, 300 National Guard troops will join 1,000 and 500 police officers to ensure safety on the route of casinos, tourist centres and hotels. Security measures to protect the crowds, which are expected to be over 300 thousand people, will include snipers, positioned on roof buildings and double the teams of rapid response compared to the previous years.
In London, a record number of armed officers and police units will patrol the streets and the metro system, though Metropolitan Police say there is no serious threat. The steel and concrete barricades will surround the celebrations, where about 500 thousand people will participate.
In Germany, all major cities, including Berlin, Munich, Hamburg, and Kaln, announced that there will be strengthened security measures for all celebrations.
In Istanbul, police arrested 120 people suspected of having ties to the Islamic State prior to New Year's celebrations. The town also plans to double the number of police officers to prevent a possible repeat of last year's event when a person with a firearm killed 39 people in a nightclub.
In Australia, one of the first countries on which New Year begins, security officers are taking steps in the event of possible attacks on New Year's Eve. Officials said police officers would be on duty on land, air and sea, as part of the country's largest security operation.
Over a million people are expected to gather in downtown Sydney and at least 500 others in downtown Melbourne to see fireworks. Police said Melbourne's centre will be “blocked” and will remain closed by 6am on New Year's Day to protect the crowds.
Police in Melburn last month arrested a person as he was planning to fire the crowds on the eve of New Year.
