Kosovo fills with fireworks for New Year's

Citizens of the poorest country in the region plan to “call” Kosovo for the New Year. Some 22 thousand pounds [22,000 kg] of gunpowder have entered the country until December 19th. That's how much fireworks and other pyrotechnics, with which Kosovars have decided to celebrate the change of weathers.

For all this so far, more than 36 thousand euros have been spent.

At least so show the import statistics of these products provided by the Word newspaper, from Kosovo Customs.

In fact, according to Dogania's data in Kosovo alone in the last two years, nearly 100,000 kilograms of fireworks and other pyrotechnics, which have cost citizens more than 150,000 euros.

During this year until December 19 we had about 22,000 pounds worth of 36,000 euros, while during 2016 we had about 74 thousand thousand pounds worth 116,000 euros”, the Adriatic Stavileci directed to the Word Journal, says.

Ramadan: Take Care of Your Children

But security connoisseurs consider the importation of such large numbers of pyrotechnics to be dangerous for the lives of citizens.

Burim Ramadani from the Security Policy Research Centre says that the large importation of the pyrotechnic means is an indication of the necessity of high safety care.

According to him, child care should be increased because they are unaware of the impending danger.

This certainly relates to the risk opportunities of members or lives of people in Kosovo. The greatest attention should be to children who are unaware of the danger that might threaten them”, Ramadani has said of the Word Gazette.

Ramadan calls for increased control and punishment measures against improper use of pyrotechnics, especially in public squares and areas where more people circulate.

He has said that although the intensity of the use of these tools has now diminished, they still remain one of the dangers of holiday season.

The overall “, although the intensity of their use has decreased, again the pyrotechnic means are one of the major dangers of the end-of-year holiday”, Ramadani has said.

The volcano prohibits the use of pyrotechnics

To boost security in the city and after citizens' complaints, the Wushtrri municipality, which is led by Xhafer Tahiri, has banned the sale and use of pyrotechnic means in this municipality.

The decision was made by Mayor Tahiri himself, through a post in his personal account on the Facebook social network, writes the Word newspaper.

The post states that citizens are prohibited from selling and using fireworks and other pyrotechnic tools in the main square of the town of Vushtrri and in other public places, such as markets, streets and squares.

The ordinance to ban the use of pyrotechnic products in open public places, respectively, on markets, roads and squares has also signed Pristina Mayor Shpend Ahmeti.

The ban Pristina Community has imposed is valid from December 30th 2017 to January 3rd, 2018, while whoever violates this ordinance will be fined at up to 100 euros.

This ban applies to the period from December 30, 2017, until January 3, 2018. Those acting contrary to the ordinance will be fined in the amount of 100 euros”, the Pristina municipality's announcement said.

In this announcement, the Directorate of Inspection is said to take care of the ordinance.

Police with operational plans for holiday seasoning

Meanwhile, to provide security, order and public calm on the entire territory of the Republic of Kosovo this year, Kosovo Police have prepared the operational plan “Year-end 2017/2018”

The Kosovo Police Information Office has told the Word Journal that there will be increased police presence at locations and open facilities for late holidays as well as in traffic for orientation and road traffic management.

In order to prevent any possible incident, Kosovo police appeal to all citizens of the country to co-operate and inform security institutions of any alleged irregularities or information, including possible information or irregularities in traffic”, the Kosovo Police Information Office for the Word Journal has said.

Police appeal to parents to be more careful and alert in preventing children from using pyrotechnic devices with the aim of avoiding the risk of explosive devices.

“On the contrary, Kosovo Police will take all immediate legal action wherever it notes that weapons or other illegal means have been used during end-of-year celebrations”, the Kosovo Police's responses reported.
