U n NESTO has repeatedly criticised Israel for the conquest of eastern Jerusalem.
Director General U n NESCOʹs Audrey Azoulay said he feels regret for Israel's withdrawal.
U “entian NESTO has had full rights within this United Nations agency since 1949, dedicating itself to education, culture and science,” has written Azulay.
Both Israel and the United States, which presented their withdrawal announcement in October, noting that they would instead seek to establish a permanent surveillance mission at the U. NESTO, where they will officially shut down their activity on December 31, 2018, reports “Al Jazeera”, the Periscope broadcast.
Announcing its withdrawal, the US State Department noted “the anti-Israel prejudice” and “the need for fundamental reforms” within the organisation.
Shortly thereafter, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyah announced that Israel would withdraw from U NESTO reasoning that the body became “an absurd theater”.
U n NESCO is best known for its work in preserving the heritage, including keeping a World Heritage List and programs to promote education in developing countries./Periscopi/
