Kosovo Deputy Prime Minister Enver Hoxhaj is standing for an official visit to Saudi Arabia at the invitation of Prince Turki Al Faisal, where he is holding busy agendas, as well as holding a speech at the Centre of King Faisal for Islamic Surveys and Studies.
During a meeting with Prince Turki Al Faisal, Hoxhaj has expressed gratitude to Saudi Arabia for support in recognising Kosovo's independence, while he has expressed disappointment with his failure to support and not solidify many other Arab states for Kosovo. With Prince Turki Al Faisal, Hoxhaj has also discussed the latest developments in Europe and the Middle East.
When Kosovo's independence was declared, we expected to have a wave of support and recognition from Arab states and Islam, but this did not happen. This lack of solidarity has disappointed the citizens and the Government of Kosovo to a large extent”, Hoxhaj has said.
Reflecting this stance even during the lecture, Hoxhaj has talked about relations Kosovo has built with Arab states in the 10 years of citizenship.
“We are very grateful to the Arab League member states and those of the Organisation for Islamic Co-operation, but at the same time, it is absurd how after ten years of independence, many Arab states have yet to recognise Kosovo's independence. This shows that these countries have shown neither solidarity with the state of Kosovo nor with the people of Kosovo, and even speaks of a lack of support for our right to self-rule and human dignity”, Hoxhaj said during the speech at the King's Centre for Research and Islamic Studies.
Deputy Prime Minister Hoxhaj said it is the last time the non-connocil, Arab League member states recognise Kosovo. Also, with the same demand, Hoxhaj also addressed member states of the Organisation for Islamic Co-operation, which have not yet recognised Kosovo's independence.
Hoxhaj said that to become a UN member state, Kosovo needs as much recognition as possible, stressing that this would be the completion of its sovereignty.
