The president of the International War Crimes Tribunal in the former Yugoslavia, Carmel Agius, has spoken of the case of convicted Bosnian Croat General Slobodan Praljak, who drank a dose of poison in the courtroom before he died in the hospital.
Agius, who has appeared deeply shocked after Pralyak drank the poison, said in an interview for N1 that he thinks his move was “kt of despair”.
He has said that the consequences of this act were more than just the death of Pralyak.
Of the 7 billion people that we live on this planet, I think 6.5 billion didn't know there was Slobodan Pralyak, nor was he convicted of war crimes”, was Agius expressed.
Now, out of 7 billion people, 6.5 billion have seen everything on television, read in newspapers, and know who was the Pralyak actually, and know that he killed himself after the court verified that he was a war criminal”, the president of The Hague tribunal said.
These 6.5 billion people knew nothing about the events in which Bosnian Croats are involved, as soldiers or politicians, while now they know”, he stressed.
The Pralyak operation was counterproductive, but I don't want to comment any further, since it was an unfortunate event. No one's expected and, of course, I was just as shocked as everyone else, said Agius.
Asked how he could put poison in court, Agius said the case is being investigated, and when the investigation is completed, we can know something more”.
