So said the Union Enlargement Commissioner Johannes Hahn today in a speech at the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP).
“2018 will be an important year and an opportunity to further develop the Western Balkans' membership process”, Hahn said.
The European Union needs a resumption of the enlargement process by convincing candidate and member countries that European integration is in the interest of both sides”, he stressed.
Hahn reiterated that the EU would not accept in its Bay countries that have unresolved problems with neighbours.
We don't want that. This is a lecture from the past”, Hahn said.
Without providing details, he added that the EC would announce in February the strategy for the Western Balkans.
