This statement states that widespread corruption prevents people from receiving the best civil service, medical services, education. It undermines the rule of law and the economy of Kosovo. Institutions, as well as citizens, should not tolerate corruption. Media assistance needed for positive change in bringing corruption.
It says that state officials, who are being brought up in an indictment, should be suspended as convicts are dismissed from office.
Common statement:
On Saturday, December 9th we mark the International Anti-Corruption Day, to stress that by telling JO corruption we say yes to progress for the people of Kosovo.
The people of Kosovo have the right to expect a judiciary and institutions of the rule of independent and quality law. They have the right to expect these institutions to fight corruption effectively.
Popular corruption prevents people from receiving the best civil service, medical services, education. It undermines the rule of law and the economy of Kosovo. Institutions, as well as citizens, should not tolerate corruption. Media assistance needed for positive change in bringing corruption.
Political will to fight corruption must be real. Steps must be taken to develop independent audits of political parties, to minimize corruption in public procurement, to review conflict of interest laws, and to public officials against whom charges have been filed, or to be condemned for cases of gross corruption-related acts. Kosovo institutions should be equipped with contemporary instruments for confiscating corrupt officials' property. Those to whom the charge is filed must be suspended, and the convicts must be dismissed. They must protect the beacons and witnesses. Enough financial and human resources must be shared to fight organised crime and corruption, especially in cases of high-level corruption. The EU is committed to investing considerable funds to support these efforts.
The enlargement process requires possession of a powerful registry with cases convicted of organised crime and corruption, while the EU strictly oversees it. This is one of the remaining criteria for visa liberalisation.
Corruption must be fought at all levels from all sides. As we remain united in condemning corruption, so we must remain united in the action against it. We owe it to the present and future generations”.
