In a call, Erdogan stressed that a Palestinian free and independent state with its capital in East Jerusalem and within the pre- 1967 borders was a must for regional peace and stability, presidential sources announced.
Erdogan expressed his appreciation for Pope Francisescu, who on December 6th demanded that the status of the holy city be respected, reports “Hurriyet Daily Nesa”, the Periscopi broadcast.
Speaking hours before US President Donald Trump announced the transfer of the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, the Pope asked all to respect UN resolutions.
Stressing that Jerusalem was holy to Muslims, Jews, and Christians, both agreed that any attempt to change the city's status is unacceptable.
The United States administration has been urged to change its decision and respect relevant resolutions and laws issued by the United Nations. /Periscopi/
