The power supply in Kosovo is being covered by import, until it is only a bloc of the Kosovo Energy Corporation, Kosovo Power Supply Distribution officials disclose.

KED spokesman Viktor Buzhala told Radio Free Europe that the current power supply facility is not in favourable situations.

Much of the electricity supply, Buzhala adds, is being covered by import.

“The situation in terms of electricity supply is currently unchanged. The current import is 500 megawatts of electricity because it's just a block in production, so production is at the minimum point, but we're covering it with import. The situation would be much better if we had a bigger electricity production”, Buzhala says.

Enough lack of electricity production, according to Kosovo Energy Corporation has resulted from spending Coal stock for the production of electricity, as well as the delay in shifting residents of the village of Shiptule and Hades, areas that will become mines in search of coal reserves.

To avoid an energy crisis, now and how long has it been required? The displacement of residents from these areasBut some of the residents have rejected relocation agreements.

Meanwhile, the Kosovo Energy Corporation has recently reaffirmed that, due to delays in signing the relocation agreements that are causing residents of the village of Shipitula and Hades, the country is risking the loss of electricity.

Arben Djukaj, director of the Kosovo Energy Corporation, has called on residents in these areas to exploit their right within legal deadlines and sign Relocation Agreements.

I call on residents to seize this opportunity, all their demands have been addressed and now come and sign the agreements, on the contrary until December 15th of this year, residents who are infected by this expropriation must pass with expropriation Law”, says Djukaj for Radio Free Europe.

Gjukaj says they have warned all relevant institutions that winter season will be challenging as far as it is concerned Coal stock.

We've been working on the reserves we've created in the past few years since August 2016. This winter will be challenging and we will be forced to have limited generation, until completely resolved expropriation of the village of Shiptillum”, Djukaj has announced.

KED spokesman Buzhala says they expect this power production situation to improve, as the import of electricity supply at the time the demand increases is difficult.

“Import security at this time is difficult due to increased energy demand not only in Kosovo, but also in the countries of the region, where we most import it from countries in the region”.

“Import has its own difficulties, there are times that security of even one megawat of electricity is extremely difficult, with prices more expensive”, Buzhala says.

Electricity problems have been following the war. To eliminate this problem now and how many years it is discussing the construction of new energy capacities, such as the implementation of the thermal power project “New Kosovo”.

But that project of New thermal power plant Starting since 2005 has yet to be implemented.
