This year's statistics point to the biggest reduction in fertility since the founding of the Albanian state.
The number of births in Albania suffered another dramatic decline this year by nearly 14 percent compared to last year, which was also a negative historical record, the Periscope broadcasts.
Data published by the Institute of Statistics shows that a little more than 20,000 babies were born in Albania for the January-September 2017 period from nearly 24 thousand who were born in the same period in 2016.
The causes of birth decline are numerous, and possible interpretations are considered unconventional to demographics. But mass population migration is considered an important cause for low fertility, because migration affects primarily the younger ages, which also have the highest fertility/Periscope.
