Deda, who is also the founder of the political subject -- Alternativea -- speaking of the goal of the Government of Kosovo which in the government programme envisions receiving membership candidate status by 2021 The EU has said that Kosovo still remains far from fulfilling reforms.
Deda in a statement on news.net has said that Kosovo has fulfilled only 2 out of 22 priorities for 2018.
He has estimated that ratification of the demarcation with Montenegro for Kosovo is becoming a key condition by Western countries for Kosovo to proceed towards EU membership. Also, according to him, the conclusion of dialogue with Serbia in 2019 with a comprehensive agreement would pave the way for Kosovo to receive candidate country status if reforms stemming from the signing of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (MSA).
“We have the unresolved issue of demarcation, which is being brought out of the Western countries' key requirement for Kosovo to advance towards the EU and dialogue on Serbia, which if it ends in 2019 with a comprehensive legal commitment agreement that agreement could pave the way for Kosovo to receive candidate status, but not without completing reforms required and released by MSA<1>, Deda told the news.
He has indicated that in addition to the political decision from the EU, this institution also estimates reforms made by a country aspiring to membership.
“Kosovo currently from 22 priorities that have had to be fulfilled by 2018 has only met 2, and this undermines Kosovo's position at the moment on candidate status position”, Deda stressed.
Disrecognition of Kosovo's independence by the five permanent EU nations, according to the Deda, cannot be a problem, as according to him, with the signing of the SAA, The EU has found the way Kosovo moves ahead on the Euro integration path.
The fact that Kosovo has reached contractual agreement with the European Union has signed The SAA means that the EU has found a way for Kosovo to advance towards European integration”, Deda has said.
Even though Kosovo has not yet received visa liberalisation, and the SAA is the only contractual agreement with the EU, the Government of Kosovo aims to obtain EU membership candidate status within the 4-year term. But it is not just the government that expresses such optimism.
Kosovo citizens too, according to a survey conducted, have expressed more optimists from other Balkan countries aimed at membership that Kosovo will join the EU.
