Floods caused by a tropical storm caused at least three deaths and forced some 80,000 people to flee their homes in the east of the Philippines, becoming known by the official authorities.
The baptized Kai-Tak storm, with winds ranging up to 110 miles per hour, is expected to advance toward Samaria, the third largest island of the Philippines, as well as to the centre of the country over the weekend, according to national meteorological services.
A boy about the age of 2 drowned on Leyte Island, very close to Samar. One woman died as a result of the landslide and another person lost his life after massive floods.
“Say half of villages are flooded”, reported during a telephone conversation with Filipino A television. BS-CBN Marcelo Picardal, deputy governor of the province east of Samaria.
The islands of Samaria and Leyte, where 4.5 million citizens live, were severely affected by Typhoon Hayyan in 2013, where 7,350 people were registered and missing.
