Americans warn arrests of big fish in Albania

The United States Embassy strongly condemns the violence that took place in today's protest in Tirana.

We support the citizens' right to protest peacefully, but damage to public property, throwing smoke grenades into Parliament and violence are not acceptable.

We call on all parties to show restraint and promote calm.

The Albanian people should not be surprised that their politicians are fighting each other. This means that reform in justice is finally being implemented.

Veting Commissions will soon have their first results. The attorney general who refused to prosecute politicians is gone.
