The election of the new president of the Kosovo Journalists' Association has failed, due to the failure of the journalists' participation, which has made it impossible for the quorum required in the AGK statute.
According to the statute, to elect the AGK chairman, half of the registered AGK members must participate in the election assembly.
Even after about an hour's wait, the election Assembly failed to make the right quorum.
AGK Executive Director Arben Salihu announced participants that since there is no quorum, then the AGK board will decide on another date of electing the mayor. He also announced that there will be an initializing of amending the AGK statute to eliminate some uncertainty.
“Sic is passed by statute should be half the general members, even for changing the statute. But we will find a perhaps easy form of communication for proposals for change, where there is no need to gather, e-mail it, make public the proposals, and then see if we continue doing so”, Salihu said.
In the race for AGK chairman, she was only RTK journalist Gentiana Begolli, who had made her candidacy public a few days earlier.
It has called implementation of the 50 per cent quota of AGK members impossible to participate in the election assembly.
“The quota definition of 50 percent of turnout means AGK representatives, is impossible to apply to this case specifically when only AGK chairman is selected. Because it's impossible for a man to collect half his membership”, she stressed.
The AGK's extraordinary Assembly was organised after the resignation of former AGK chairman Shkele Hysenaj.
