It has been a week since the boycott of work by prisoners in Dubrava Prison ward 6.
Prisoners are refusing to work, demanding that the Law on Execution of Criminal Sanctions be amended, which has cut off their family vacation within the year and prohibit the acceptance of food packages from family members.
KA LLXO.com learns that these two privileges were held by prisoners according to the previous Law.
Continued refusal to work by convicts has confirmed it to KALLXO.com Sokol Zogaj, task manager of the Kosovo Correcting Service director.
They're asking you to return these rights. The minister has approved the commission to submit proposals for drafting the Law for Criminal Sanctions”, Zogaj said, alluding to Justice Minister Abelard Tahiri.
While, Alban Mourqi from the Kosovar Centre for the rehabilitation of Torture Survivors, KRCT, shown it was five days ago in ward number six to see closely boycotts of work by prisoners.
To KALLXO.com Muriqi said that the ban on work by prisoners has caused problems in the kitchen, both in terms of hygiene and food quality.
Muriqi also says that the boycott of work concerns certain restrictions of the new Law on Criminal Sanction.
“Permissions that were restricted. Both the right to holiday in the weekend and accept food packages from the” family, the latter added.
In the last Law on the Execution of Criminal Sanctions, prisoners have had 21 days off in the family, while under the new Law they are allowed to pay family visits only 7 days. According to Muriq, this is a huge restriction for convicts.
“The Ministry of Justice, Government, Correcting Service and human rights organisations have not yet seriously dealt with this matter”, Muriqi told KALLXO.com.
KA LLXO.com has called the Justice Ministry to stand over the demands of the prisoners and whether they have taken any action to implement these requirements, but has not received answers.
