Stephen Hawking says one day it may be possible for people to reach Mars in less than an hour. The world-renowned physicist explained that the human race like Star Trek should have the courage to go where no one has gone before, if it wants to continue living for another million years, he said Sunday.
According to Prof Hawking, the world will remove people in 2600, when energy consumption can turn the planet into a cold fireball. But thanks to space migration, we can reach Mars and Pluton in one day. Prof Hawking said at the Tencent WE Summit in Beijing: “Ide behind this innovation is to have nanocraft travel in light range”.
“Such a system could reach Mars in less than an hour, or reach Pluton in one day, pass Vojager in less than a week and reach Alpha Centauri in a little over 20 years”, he continued, writes World.al.
Spatial migration can be made possible through initiatives such as Breakthhrough Starshot, an effort supported by Hawking to reach Alpha Centauri the star system closest to our land. If the programme becomes reality, a nanoraft investigation will be able to reach the nearest Sun System star within one generation.
