Research results have been published in the magazine “American Journal of Preventive Medicine”, while scientists say it is never too late to stop smoking, but this should be done as soon as possible.
Scientists at the U.S. National Institute for Health (NIH) have conducted the study, in which 160,000 residents participated, said triple the death toll of 60-year-olds who have consumed cigarettes compared to 70-year-olds who have never smoked.
The study has lasted 6.4 years, and during this period 16 percent of students have died. Among the dead were 56 percent former smokers and 6 percent active smokers.
