President Donald Trump's administration should act urgently to preserve peace and stability in the Balkans, according to US analyst Daniel Cerwer.
The older expert in the field of Southeast Europe has also presented options for resolving the shaken political and security situation in the Western Balkans, the news broadcasts.
Cerwer sees one of the main causes of instability in the Balkans, the mixture of Russia, which says he does not want a pro-Western and pro-democratic development of that part of Europe.
Analyst stresses that Congress and the White House have been notified of its recommendations.
Voice of America writes that Serwer does not anticipate new war in the Western Balkans. However, it does not rule out the possibility of an outbreak of violence due to extremists in Albania, Macedonia and Serbia.
“would be welcome to a new United States initiative, on some of the most important issues, including constitutional reform in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo's status and the Macedonia name issue”, the analyst says.
He eventually proposed appointing a special envoy for the Western Balkans with the task of assessing success and shortcomings in implementing peace agreements in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo, as well as offering specific recommendations for further US policy on resolving the current stalemate in Southeast Europe.
