Russia and Iran are signing a memorandum of understanding to support a new gas pipeline project, according to Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak.
The countries will build a 1,200km-long pipeline from Iran to India, and the main supplier will be the Russian gas pipeline, Gazprom, which will build several Iranian deposits along the route of the next pipeline.
The project will be implemented with the participation of Iranian, Pakistani and Indian firms”, Novak said.
Construction is expected to begin next year, according to the minister.
Iran is promoting energy production to restore the market due to international sanctions, which softened in 2015.
Following the removal of sanctions, the international oil and gas corporations have expressed interest in investing, while France remains the main investor. The French company's initial investment is $1 billion.
